Well today was going to be the same, but I decided to try and hit a couple of destinations that I have been meaning to stop at, just to see what they were about. I was looking at Rendezvous Leathers 690 Quaker Highway, Uxbridge, MA and Sheldon's Harley 914 Southbridge St Auburn, MA .
Heading out from Belchertown, I did not get far before I see a street bike and a scooter stopped along an intersection and the scooter did not look healthy. I pulled over to check on them and the scooter had just been picked up after the operator tried to stop (unsuccessfully) and the went flying off the bike from a lockup. The rear caliper was hanging free and in the wheel, which was a very unfortunate place for the operator. His damage seemed to be mainly his elbow, which didn't seem life threatening but very possibly broken. After I helped them get the scooter into a buddies pickup (45 minutes later) I was once again on my way.
On rte 32 in Monson, I came upon another accident, this time a car getting personal with a telephone pole. No one seemed to be hurt, so I continued on.
Not a mile down the road, I come upon a much more serious accident with a car on its side and the police and emergency personnel just getting on the scene. I did not stick around to see how that turned out. This was not looking like a good day for traveling, which seemed odd since the roads did not seem that busy.
Thankfully, that was the last accident I saw for the day.
Here is the route I went with for the day...
The bottom line ... after a slight detour into Rhode Island (unplanned) I made it to Rendezvous leather... it was a small hole in the wall place ... I was not impressed. They did have an assortment of leather jackets, some helmets, plenty of nick-nacks and some accessories for bikes but not really a trip destination sort of place... more of a curious stop along the way sort of place.
I then traveled up to Sheldon's Harley, only to get there just after 4pm which was their summertime Saturday closing time .... dang! So much for seeing them.
I now just headed home, which was by far the best destination of the day but it was still the ride that made it all worth while.
130 miles over a timeline of about 4 1/2 hours including the stops to help others.
